Registrar Anaesthetist

Anaesthesiology

Job Purpose:

Inspire Medical is recruiting Registrar Anaesthetists for locum and fixed term vacancies at various locations across the country, in both HSE hospitals and private hospitals. Posts sit on the anaesthesia on-call rota of an acute hospital, covering elective and emergency theatre lists, obstetric anaesthesia and the intensive care unit where the hospital has one.

Locum cover runs from single shifts to rolling blocks; fixed term contracts run from three months to a full six-month rotation aligned to the January and July changeovers. Salary and rates vary depending on whether the post is private or HSE — HSE posts pay on the HSE NCHD scale, private posts at the hospital’s own rate. General Registration with the Irish Medical Council is mandatory.

Reports to:

Consultant Anaesthetist on duty

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency theatre lists under consultant supervision appropriate to your experience.
  • Cover the emergency theatre, obstetric epidural service and acute pain rounds as rostered, and take part in the anaesthesia on-call rota.
  • Attend pre-assessment clinics and complete accurate, timely anaesthetic records.
  • Respond to cardiac arrest, rapid response and difficult airway calls as part of the hospital team.
  • Supervise SHOs where rostered, and hand over safely at the start and end of every shift.

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • IMC General Registration is mandatory — applications without it cannot be progressed.
  • At least two years’ anaesthesia experience, including independent management of routine lists; a primary fellowship examination (FCAI, FRCA or equivalent) is an advantage.
  • Current ACLS; ATLS and obstetric anaesthesia experience are an advantage.
  • Right to work in Ireland, or eligibility for a Critical Skills Employment Permit — we manage the process.
  • Garda vetting, occupational health clearance and two clinical references.

Note: this description is a guide to the role rather than an exhaustive list of duties, and responsibilities may develop over time in line with service needs. Appointment is subject to registration with the relevant regulator and to the candidate’s eligibility to work in Ireland or the United Kingdom. Inspire Medical is an equal opportunities employer.
