Orthopaedic Consultant

Inspire Medical is recruiting Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons for locum and fixed term vacancies in HSE hospitals at various locations across the country. Posts combine the trauma on-call rota with elective lists, fracture clinics and outpatient clinics; sub-specialty interests in arthroplasty, spine, upper limb, foot and ankle or paediatric orthopaedics are welcome.

Locum cover runs from single weeks to rolling blocks; fixed term contracts run from three to twelve months. Pay is at HSE locum rates: €133 per hour on site and €33 per hour off site. Registration on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council register is mandatory for every post.

Clinical Director, Surgery

• Provide consultant-level care for trauma and elective orthopaedic patients, holding overall clinical responsibility for those under your care.
• Take part in the trauma on-call rota, including the trauma list and post-take ward rounds, as agreed at booking.
• Run elective operating lists, fracture clinics and outpatient clinics in line with the department’s schedule.
• Supervise and teach orthopaedic registrars and SHOs and contribute to their appraisal and clinical governance.
• Work with the emergency department, anaesthesia, theatre and the orthogeriatric service to keep the trauma pathway safe and moving.

• IMC Specialist Registration in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery is mandatory — applications without it cannot be progressed.
• Recent consultant or senior specialist experience in an Irish, UK or comparable acute hospital, including independent trauma on-call.
• Confident managing the full range of adult trauma and elective orthopaedics, with a sub-specialty interest an advantage.
• Current medical indemnity and evidence of participation in a professional competence scheme.
• Garda vetting, occupational health clearance and two consultant-level references.
